the little things

sigh. there is so much going on. so much to do. so much to think about. so much to plan for. just so much to do. there are moments that i want to throw my hands over my ears and scream “lalalala, i can’t hear you!”. but unfortunately, i can’t. all of the things that seem to pile up are huge things … but when you look closely, it is a compilation of tiny little things that seem to clump together.

but it is also the little things that make life okay again. little things, like a dairy queen ice cream cone. a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that i didn’t have to make. a disney princess chocolate bar (thanks the-resa!). a pirate party (happy burfday jamie!). air conditioning (praise the lord!). walking through target looking at baby clothes imagining what my daughter will be like when shes big enough to wear the outfits.

… one day at a time. one step at a time. that’s all we can do.

This is a picture of the most amazing “little thing” … they are tiny desserts from Applebees … brililant!

Today’s Quote on IGoogle

I have daily quotes on my iGoogle Home Page.  Today’s is this…

Before I got married I had six theories about bringing up children; now I have six children and no theories.
- John Wilmot

I also saw a book in Barnes and Noble that was called, “I was a great mom until I had kids”.  The more parenting books I read to get ready for baby Charlotte, the more I realize I had no idea what I was talking about.  I had some strong opinions… but really, what did I know?  And I still have some strong opinions, but I’m sure after I’ve dealt with the first sleepless nights, the strength of those opinions will change.

I think you guys are right in your interpretation of my reoccurring dreams.  Well, ready or not, here she comes!

Sandwich, anyone?

No, this post isn’t about food … though food would be really good right now (can you tell i’m pregnant?!) This post is about a man wearing a sandwich … well, a sandwich BOARD.

Before I show you Sandwich Man, let me tell you the story behind him. I recently went to hear Rob Bell speak. He was doing “the gods aren’t angry” tour. It was phenomenal. He is such a brilliant communicator, such a captivating story teller. Anyway, when we were leaving the theater, we met Sandwich Man. (PS, the video you are about to watch was posted by Sandwich Man, so that explains the introduction.)

So now that you’ve seen that, let me tell you why I want to tell you about Sandwich Man. It is important to note that Sandwich Man and his sandwich-less friend are standing outside of a CHRISTIAN event. So, all of the people you see walking in and out of the video, for the most part, are Christians. They believe in God, they love Jesus, and are going to Heaven.

So Sandwich Man is a little misguided. Well-intentioned, I’m sure. He genuinely wants to share the “truth” with people … however I think he has his “truth” a little mixed up. First, before you start standing outside a theater screaming like a mad-man, please do your research and know what the heck you are talking about and who you are talking to. They took the title of the tour at face value and didn’t seem to know anything about what Rob Bell actually spoke on. Second, if you serve a god who is so pissed off, I don’t want to have anything to do with that, and you must lead a sad life serving such an angry god.

I have been a Christian since I was 12 years old, so half my life at this point. The God I know and serve loves me. He loves everyone. His heart is broken because of the sin, but he doesn’t hate anyone. Hell was created for the devil and his morons … not for us. God doesn’t want to have any of us go there, but there is a natural consequence of sin. The Sandwich Man did get one thing right … not all are reconciled to God yet. There are plenty of people out there who are still drowning in themselves, in their own sin, in their own willpower to make it work. But God doesn’t hate any of them. And the people who are in that situation are usually the people who are hurting the most. So why in the world would you scream at them that God hates them? I’m sure they are thinking inside their own head, “no one can love me.” And then for you to scream at them that God, their only hope, hates them … no wonder they don’t want to be a Christian! God loves people … He hates the actual sin … but He looks past that to see the wonderful person He created, and the potential that they have to do great things.

The Bible says that we will be known as Christ-followers because of our LOVE. Let me say that I don’t agree with the methods of some of the other people in the video.  The guy in the middle did, however, start out really well by quoting actual Scripture that was the REAL truth, unlike Sandwich Man.

It makes me sad to know that that night there could have been a lonely girl, perhaps she was living on the streets with no where to go, and all she needed was for someone to offer her hope … but instead she heard Sandwich Man. It makes that Free Hug campaign sound even more needed…

Reoccurring Dreams

Have you ever had reoccurring dreams, the ones that you have over and over again at random times for no apparent reason? I’ve had a reoccurring dream several times in the past few months, its never the same thing, but its always the same theme.

I’m either at school (like high school) or getting ready for school, but I don’t know my class schedule and I don’t know where the classrooms are. I have all the books, notebooks, supplies and such, but I have no idea how to get around the school, where to find my classrooms, or when the classes even start.

I’m always torn between whether dreams have meanings or not. I think some do, but I think some are just random thoughts that your brain hasn’t processed during the day. So anyway, just thought I’d share my strange reoccurring dreams. What are your thoughts… ?

the True Strength of America

when people think of patriotism, they usually envision flags and soldiers. and its true that the strength of our country really does ride on the backs of our boys in arms. on May 1, i witnessed one of the best things in the world … my brother coming home from war.

he served in Afghanistan for 8 months on his second deployment. and while it was so amazing to see him come home, such a relief, what was more amazing was the people i was waiting with.

the families, the wives, the children, the ones left behind. they are the true strength of this country. it is their support, their endurance, that allows our boys to do what they do best. without them to come home to, it would be a much harder and longer road. (and i was so blown away by the tiny babies that were waiting to meet their daddies for the first time!).

Until they all come home…

Pinky & The Brain

Its been a long time since I have blogged about our dogs, Shiloh and Sophie. The other day I took some recent photos, so I thought I’d share them…

Shiloh and Sophie plotting to take over the world … well at least the kitchen

Sophie having some bonding time with Daddy

Finally caught them both looking at the camera!

This blog is titled Pinky and the Brain because that is exactly who our dogs are! Shiloh is the quiet one that is probably plotting to rule the world, and Sophie is the dim-wit that would say things like “Narf”. But we love them!

let your hair down

So I’m driving home today from church and I heard this song on the radio. It was perfect. I had the windows down, my hair blowing in my face, and then I could smell the Honeysuckle. There are three things I love about summer: Lightening Bugs, Watermelon, and Honeysuckle! So I wanted to share with you the feeling I had today… I love summer evenings!

Get it?

So normally I don’t think that “racial” jokes are funny, but this one is really innocent and when read in that light, is really cute … if you don’t like it, … sorry.

Su Wong marries Lee Wong.  The next year, the Wongs have a new baby.  The nurse brings over a lovely, healthy, bouncy, but definetly Caucasian white baby boy.  “Congratulations”, says the nurse to the new parents.  “Well, Mr Wong, what will you and Ms Wong name the baby?”

The puzzled father looks at his new baby boy and says, “Well, two Wongs don’t make a white, so I think we will name him Sum Ting Wong”.

Hehe, get it?
