new size, no change

Its now at the end of the third week of p90x.  Almost time for the 30 day pictures!  It has seriously been kicking my tail… but that’s kinda the point! LOL.  Some days are better than others, I like some of the workouts better than the others.  I love the Ab Ripper… but Yoga is another story.  Its a good thing I go to see my chiropractor this week… all those upward dogs have really done a number on my lower back! And even though it has been a challenge… the results make it worth it.  Already we can see a physical change, some rolls are not quite as big as they used to be :)   I can tell a change in my own strength, flexibility, and energy level.  AAAANNNNDDD, I fit into some old pants that are a size smaller. Yay.  But something is confusing me…

I can see a change in the way my clothes fit, but the scale hasn’t really changed.  For the first 2 weeks, my weight didn’t change at all.  [Granted, this morning I stepped on the scale and had lost 5 pounds from last week, woo hoo].  But with all the exercising we’re doing, and the changes we’ve seen, I would have expected a bigger weight change.  Of course there is the line of “muscle weighs more than fat, and you are building muscle”, but the trainer on the Biggest Loser said that was a bunch of crap when one of the girls only lost 2 pounds after a month of being at home.  So, I dunno.  I’m happy with the results so far.  They are enough to motivate me to keep going.  And I’m trying not to let the scale bother me.  Its just that I have a pretty lofty goal and really important things on hold until I reach that goal… so I really wanna see the needle on the scale move to the left!!  Any of you have any advice?

Nooma

At Stage20 we’ve been watching Rob Bell’s Nooma video series.  They are really awesome.  Rob Bell has a way of making you think.  I should have blogged about each one as we went, but it wasn’t until tonight that I realized how much I had actually begun to process and apply them.  I have so much swirling around in my brain, that I don’t even know where to begin!! So let’s just jump in and see where it goes….

God created us in His image.  And He is a creator, therefore, He made us to create.  You can see it through all of nature.  Apples create seeds which create more apples.  Humans create new humans.  We are made to create things.  So what am I creating?  In the book  Captivating, Stasi talks about how every woman is made to be a mother and to give birth.  This doesn’t always mean a physical birth of an actual child.  Perhaps it is your job to birth a movement, or a work of literature, or simply just be a mentor and “mother” a younger woman.  But we are all supposed to create and birth something.  Can I actually be honestly content and happy if I am not creating?

Tonight’s video talked about anger, the good and bad kind.  Anger isn’t bad, its just an emotion.  It is how you respond to that anger that determines its worth.  Do you use anger to fuel hatred and stupidity?  Or do you take that angery energy and create something healing and peaceful?  Do you see injustices and do nothing, or do you take that righteous anger and make a change to remedy that injustice?

So it all comes back to doing something.  Not just sitting there and letting life happen to you. You have to take what comes and create something out of it.  Take your circumstances, talents, anger, abilities, passions, and create. So what am I creating? What are you creating?

In case you don’t know what that is (because you are a HUGE goober and have been living under a rock … I say that with love of course), its a cake of Lost.  It has all the cast, a plane crash, a computer with the numbers, a suitcase, a gun, and of course Dharma beer.  I first saw this over on Cake Wrecks.

So… anyone wanna tackle this?  You’ve got 11 days, that should suffice.  But don’t forget about my birthday shoes.  kthanks!!

insert dog reference here

Who let the dogs out. Thrown to the dogs. Its a dog eat dog world. Its a dogs life. Ain’t nothing but a hound dog. Hot diggity dog. … You get the point.

Charlotte is starting to imitate the sounds around her.  Well, its not so much imitating the sound as it is the pitch.  We have started a new game where one of us makes a noise and the other one copies it.  It mostly consists of Mmms and Aaaahs, but you get the point.  On Sunday we were at Grandma Cynthia’s and I was holding Charlotte as she was trying to fall asleep.  An ambulance drove by the house and Rocco (Uncle Patrick’s beast of a dog) began to howl. We heard another noise and it took us a moment to figure out what it was.  Charlotte was howling with Rocco.  She wasn’t opening her mouth and throwing her head back, but she was just laying there matching his pitch.  It was hilarious.  Another noise she hears often is our little uglies in the back yard.  Shiloh is pretty quiet unless something is going on, but Sophie is a loud mouth.  She will bark at anything, and sometimes nothing at all.  And they tend to lay right under Charlotte’s bedroom window.  So Charlotte hears them all day … and all night.  This morning, Sophie was barking as normal, but we heard something else.  It kind of sounded like Sophie, but was coming from a different place. We realized it was Charlotte “barking” like Sophie.  She was in her crib, still mostly sleeping, but was imitating what she heard.  It was so funny.

What’s strange is that I remember stories of my sister doing this.  My sister is 7 years older than me, so I obviously wasn’t there.  But she was the first grandchild in the family, and was therefore the entertainment of family gatherings.  They would put my sister on the floor to play, but she would follow the dog around imitating her.  Apparently it was quite a sight.  Maybe its just a baby thing… I dunno.  Have your kids imitated anything?

OMWx

Oh My Word. So yesterday was the beginning of me and Jamie’s P90X journey.  If you haven’t seen the infomercials for P90X, Google it.  It is insane. I think the guy is seriously a saddist.  The first day’s workout was an hour long.  And 15 minutes into the warmup, I was so done! LOL.  But we got through the whole thing.  I wasn’t able to do all the exercises exactly the way they did them, but I’ll get there.  We at least tried all the moves.  I just keep looking forward to Thursday, which is Yoga, and Sunday is just rest.

This morning I am sore all over.  But I feel really good.  Part of it is simply because I got my booty up and moved.  But part of it is the confidence boost that “yeah, I’m on my way”.  So I feel good.  I feel the burn, and I brought it, but I feel good.

We took the before pictures, and we will be taking pics again at 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days.  If they are any good, you might see them.  The befores are pretty awful, but hopefully the 90 day “after” pictures will make it all better!! So here’s to the beginning of the journey!!
